RNG35 FAQ

The RNG35 is a tool that allows you to use 35mm SLR lenses on a digital camcorder. This gives you complete control over selective focus so you can keep your subject focused while the foreground and background are blurred. This is one of the most cinematic elements you can give your footage. The following are some common questions about the RNG35 and 35mm adapters:

Can I use the adapter with my camcorder?

Yes, the RNG35 is adaptable to most any camcorder. Every camcorder will have it's own ability to zoom in and focus so the adjustments that you need to make will differ from one camera to the next.

What lenses can I use with the RNG35?

The RNG35 comes with a Nikon mount.

Do you provide 35mm SLR lenses for the RNG35?

No we do not provide actual SLR lenses for the adapter. SLR lenses are not expensive and new or used SLR lenses can be found for usually under $100 USD.

Is the image on the RNG35 inverted?

Yes. The physical characteristics of introducing another lens to your camcorder makes the image appear to be rotated 180 degrees (upside down and backwards). This can be overcome by using an external monitor or a 3rd party flipping device. The RNG35 can be customized to fit 3rd party flipping units. In fact, if you plan to go this route, please contact us for details about a custom-made RNG35 to go along with a flip adapter.

What types of lenses should I use with the adapter?

Since the goal of using a 35mm adapter is to get shallow depth of field, you should use a lens with a smaller F stop like f 1.8. The greater the F stop number, the less of a blur you will get in the foreground and background. It is also a good idea to keep the F stop number low so you can bring as much light into the adapter as possible.

Does the RNG35 require the use of a rail support system?

The RNG35 is named for its mobility (Run N Gun) and does not require rails. However, some kind of support system is suggested so it will not put too much stress on the front threads of your camcorder
